Chines Supermodel Du Juan has been sued by her "mother" modeling agency and fined 4.5 million yuan. New Silk Road China's largest and oldest agency, filed the lawsuit because Juan made a secret deal with entertainment management giant IMG prior to the expiration of her contact. It was in September 2002 that Juan signed a contract with the agency after winning a nationwide modeling contest. The contact stipulates New Silk Road is Du Juan's sole agency managing all her events both at home and abroad. In 2005 she boarded a plane to the United States in order to "study abroad", but actually ended up signing with IMG Models. Therefore, New Silk Road claimed Juan has violated their original agreement and thus requests the model hands in part of the income grossed through such activities and pays another 3 million yuan fine. Du Juan has said that she had to had to sign the contract in order to advance into the final round, which seems legitimately unfair. The court has not yet made a decision.
