Marc Jacaobs? Playboy? Who Knew?

Be sure to stop by the Marc by Marc Jacobs store now through February 18th to have your photo taken with real live Playboy bunnies. They will even be wearing authentic costumes from the Playboy vault, go figure!

Of course, it’s no surprise Jacob’s is collab-ing with Playboy–his love for bunny ears is well documented. The lusty live window display is inspired by Hugh Hefner’s Playboy, 6 Volumes, a limited edition book Jacobs’ is selling across the street at Bookmark. The designer also created three Marc Jacobs + Playboy tees, which will go for $35 a piece with proceeds going to Designers Against AIDS.

I am most defiantly stopping by to take a picture, what, I always the Christmas shoot. Either way, have a Happy Valentine's Day.

Peek-A-Boo. Kimora. Where Are You?

Spring ad campaigns for Baby Phat are steadily rolling out and surprise, do not feature the original queen of hip hop and bling bling! The hang tags are completely void of her face in that horrible black and white photo from what, ten years ago.

Baby Phat is taking a totally different direction now, but will still include accessories, clothing, handbags, and shoes. It will be a lot more casual and be geared towards an easy Sunday morning lifestyle, creepy. Look for it in Macy's stores soon, if you must.Retweet this button on every post blogger

Black Swan Down...

Black Swan may be the next biggest thing in the fashion industry thanks the Mulleavy sisters behind Rodate creating 40 costumes for the Darren Aronofsky thriller, including outfitting the entire ballet corps.

But with awards season in full swing, you won’t see Kate and Laura Mulleavy’s names next to the nominations for Best Costume Design. Black Swan has already received a best costume nomination from the Critics Choice Awards and will likely get an Oscar nomination. Amy Westcott will take the credit, as she received the “front credit” as costume designer for the film while the Mulleavy sisters only receive a back end credit.

The most famous example of this is Edith Head winning the Oscar for Sabrina when Givenchy outfitted Hepburn for the film. According to the Hollywood Reporter this is a very old tradition.

The Rachel Zoe Collection Is Here

Our favorite stylist to the stars Rachel Zoe, may be several months pregnant, but she is still moving full speed ahead. Her debut namesake label Rachel Zoe Collection, which includes handbags, platforms, and stilettos will range from $250 for a day dress up to $700 for a full tuxedo look.

Zoe’s manufacturing firm Li & Fung say they haven’t secured any retailers yet, but Zoe says she envisions the collection on the racks next to Alexander Wang and DVF and Marc by Marc Jacobs.

According to WWD, a le smoking-esque tuxudo jumpsuit is included in the line, all with a dramatic 1970s flare. Even though, Zoe says, ““I’d imagine everybody is expecting something from me that’s kind of a Seventies, uberboho-glam kind of thing, and, you know, very accessorized it’s not.” Either way it is sure to fly off the racks soon enough. And did I mention that she is having a boy?

A Conversation with Derek Lam & Jenna Lyons At My Old College

My former flame invited me to hear two of fashion's best and brightest from the class of, well, let's just say, way back speak. This is their story (insert Law & Order music)

When did you realize that fashion was the career for you?
Jenna: I was a really tall and gawky kid back in high school so my clothes never fit. I took home economics to alter my horribly fitting clothes and never turned back...

Derek: I kind of grew up around fashion. My mother made wedding dresses and worked in a factory. It all kind of rubbed off on me.

What were you both like in college, during those beloved school days?
J:
I was already studying at Otis; Parsons' West Coast campus, so when I transferred to the New York location I was an L.A. girl, in the 1980s, enough said, but Derek was chic from the get go!

D: I merely arrived in custom made Comme Des Garcons and worked really hard.

Any words of advice for incoming and present students?
J:
The bar at Parsons is set very, very high, so you have to make it happen. But the thing is, anyone can make it happen!

Internships are very important, how did you make the most of them?
J:
Internships really broaden your mind and are your chance to really learn new things. "I wish I knew more than wovens". There is so much more to fashion, especially nowadays; accessories, leather, shoes, etc.

D: "When I have interns I move them around". I shuffle them from public relations to sales to sales to design.

On the Parsons reputation?
J: I nearly had a panic attack upon seeing the building. My first thoughts were, do I have my 25 sketches for homework?

D: Ditto...

Book Marc Is Now Open For Business

On Labor Day instead of kicking it and getting pissed off at my fellow West Indians as they were over zealous with pride, I decided to keep it real.

1pm. -Business Meeting

3pm. -Borders; those October issues are rolling in!

6pm.- Dinner in the meatpacking district

While passing the West village, my friends and I noticed the new Book Marc bookstore and were delightfully thrilled at what we found. Expect to see Sharpie markers embellished with the designer's name, sketch books that are perfect for us college kids, and stacks upon stacks of books that cover everything you could ever want to know.

Anything You Can Do, I can Do Better...

I pride myself when it comes to being the creative type, but would never gloat about it, humility is key in my religion, shout out to the Christians! So when the perfect job comes along I will be more than happy if it encompasses the many things I love.

Now, to your left is a a fashion show invite to the Mulberry Fall 2011 show created by Jude Law's sister, Natasha. Not bad considering that one is for the actual show and the other, the after party. Plus the dimensions are 2 feet long.

The invitations to my birthday party are scheduled to roll out next week, so keep your eyes peeled ladies and gentlemen.Retweet this button on every post blogger

Grace Coddington, Enough Said

Every young, aspiring fashion stylist should know who Grace Coddington is, especially after The September Issue hit theaters everywhere. So, in case you do not, Coddington is Vogue magazine's creative director.

She is working on a memoir about her time spent working alongside Anna Wintour at the magazine and former Men’s Vogue editor-in-chief Jay Fielding, who has collaborated with Coddington in the past, is her writing partner.

The book will not only cover her life–including her years as a model and time spent at Calvin Klein and British Vogue–but also plenty of fashion history. It should be a good read...

Jane Magazine is Jane Pratt

Jane Pratt has long been my much sought after mentor for numerous reasons. She had a goal, was more than successful in surpassing it, and created a name for herself that will go down in history, Jane, both the in person and in print.

Falling Out of Fashion by Karen Yampolsky answered every question that I have ever had about the now defunct magazine for 20 something women and the mastermind behind it, even a few lingering thoughts about Sassy.

The author worked as the personal assistant to Jane Pratt for nine years and released this book the same year Jane, the magazine folded, which at the time was edited by the founding editor of Elle Girl, Brandon. At times it felt like an "I am sorry" letter, but other than that it kept it real about believing in yourself and its many pitfalls. Though names were written as pseudonyms it is pretty obvious who Yampolsky was referring to, except that fashion designer friend of hers...Retweet this button on every post blogger

Hide Yo Wife! Hide Yo Designs!

I was recently out shopping the market and stopped into a former haunt, H&M. We are all well aware of "fast fashion" and its many consequences, but this one is deadly. Brace yourselves and by no means do I endorse such practices. To the left is the $13 version by H&M while PINK manages to keep it real for $70, get it, keep it real!

"I pledge allegiance to VS Pink, and all that is comfy, fun, and worn by Chanel Iman". Lemme stop before I become a spokes model (blogger) and get my royalties revoked quicker then when Naomi Campbell pledged not to wear fur. Click here if you need a quick fix of Pink and have some self respect http://www.victoriassecret.com

Third Times A Charm, Even for LC

Remember the clothing line Lauren Conrad had been selling exclusively at Kohl's department stores. Well I remember her subsequent covers on Seventeen magazine and peek into her "design journals" even better. Apparently the line had been canceled for some time now, but according to Conrad she is working on something else, and no, not another book series.

As of now it will be "a contemporary fashion line with her best friends." Conrad said the womenswear line will be "more of a boutique line ... at a higher price point.” Interesting, but this will her third time and hopefully a charm.

True Whit by Whitney Port

The City was my show until I became so enamored in classes that I could barely watch it. If you are still in the dark about the "bright lights, long nights of the city", your bubble is about to be burst. The show was a sham and half of the parties that they attended were fake, just like a few of those jobs! Kelly Cutrone was literally "the realest one" on there.

So what is a young starlet to do, in order to remain on the East coast and pay New York City's sky high rent? Write a self- help book just like your mentor! Whitney Port is only 25 years old, but do not get me wrong, there are some wise young people out there.

She states that her book is "Really fun and fresh, a how-to-guide where I can share anecdotes that I've learned from both work and my personal life." Look for outfit options to wear on that first date, making a tiny apartment more welcoming, and the likes. I will not be purchasing a copy, but feel free to send me one.
