"What do I wear in bed? Why, Chanel No. 5, of course" — Marilyn Monroe

There are five senses, but smell has to be the strongest one. It is the easiest way to leave a lasting impression on someone, especially on date night. As I browsed the men's fragrance counter at Bloomingdale's the inspiration for this post just hit me, like bang, minus the Marc Jacobs.

These are my top 5 choices for men's cologne available at fine department stores nationwide.

1. Lacoste Essential
This cologne contains a patented time- released technology that slowly releases top notes of bergamot, tangerine, and tomato leaves. It contains a woodsy base note of patchouli and sandalwood that are "recharged" just by rubbing the skin together.

2. Ralph Lauren Big Pony Collection #4
With three other variations on the scent available, this bottle is for the gentleman that is ahead of the curve. Look for a modern edge that layers mandarin and kyarawood for a strong yet confident scent.

3. Sean John Unforgivable
First launched by P.Diddy in 2005, an explosive and seductive scent with a central note of bergamot accented by fresh marine notes, rich spices and heady woods. This scent contains a rich and confident water-woods scent.

4. Calvin Klein Intense Euphoria
If Calvin Klein is your designer of choice and the tune Rico Suave is constantly on rotation in your head, this is the choice for you. It is a step of above the classic Euphoria scent and has an interesting mix of fragrance notes that make it true to its name. This scent is bold and energetic with notes of black basil, cedar leaf, ginger pepper cocktail, and solid amber.

5. Yves Saint Laurent L'Homme
A fusion of style and sensuality in the form of a fresh and outdoor like fragrance, with bright, sparkling notes of bergamot, ginger, and vetiver. This fragrance contains a contrast that both a unique combination of luxury and art for timeless elegance.
