Betsey Johnson for Opening Ceremony

Betsey Johnson is the bomb! I know that, you know that, even she knows that, well I hope so! It has been rumored that the downtown style designer was working on a capsule collection that would have a more accessible price point, behold, Opening Ceremony. The line will consist of completely original looks from the Betsey Johnson archives, spanning back to the 1970s and 1980s. Do not expect to see ruffles, spice, and everything nice because these looks are far from it. "It’s so funny. My favorite pieces were those black, dark punk Eighties times. I wanted to show my stretch story. Then I wanted to do my most iconic prints like the cherries for the comic-book girl. The snakeskin print was something else! (laughs) There was always this harder side to me but it was hard to see it through the prints and ruffles." said Betsey. Look for the collection at Opening Ceremony this fall.

Betsey Johnson Fall 2009

There were no cartwheels from Betsey Johnson for the first time in what feels like forever…because there was no catwalk. Instead, she invited a smaller crowd to "Betsey Crocker's Kitchen" in her showroom. Yes, folks, the designer who played Peter Pan for Spring reinvented herself as Julia Child. "It's a happy, eating/drinking show with hot waiter guys," Johnson said with typical zaniness.

Fashion's most playful designer (who recently sold part of her company and is working with some new people) is having a moment. A new generation, too young to have Betseyed in the nineties, much less the eighties, is discovering her charms. There were rumors aloft that she might do a collaboration with Target, and it's known for sure that she is about to debut an archive collection with Opening Ceremony (the groovy store/showroom/gallery) this fall.

Looking either like extras from a raunchy Ellen von Unwerth shoot or like Cyndi Lauper, the models wore rose prints, lace, and petticoats. Forced to think more commercially, too—as are most of her colleagues—Johnson also showed T-shirts from her soon-to-launch tee line as well as sweat suit separates. "It's artsy yet very real," she said, unsinkably, in a preshow interview. "It's a trip, trip, trip, trip." Some girls, come what may, will always just want to have fun.

Get Betsey Johnson at Burlington Coat Factory

When items do not sell at department stores or sample sales they are bought and resold at places like Burlington Coat Factory, Daffy's, and T.J. Maxx. Lucky for all you Betsey Johnson fans out there I spotted her latest fragrance which is self titled at Burlington Coat Factory.

The top notes are juicy grapefruits, tangerines, and pears while the remaining notes are amber, musk, and praline. The inspiration for the packaging was chandeliers according to Betsey. Grab the 1 oz Eau de Parfum Spray which retails for $45.00 for only $20! Keep an eye out for her fashions designs because they are available as well.
